Our Project

Improving upon Micro-Computed Tomography (micro-CT) system resolutions with a spectral detector that can reduce product testing costs and time

Engineers will be able to conduct more effective quality assurance testing using our spectral micro-CT system that demonstrates better and more colorful resolution.

4 Degree-Of-Freedom Stage Control

Four high-resolution stepper motors allow for accurate specimen positioning. Our system uses GRBL, a firmware which converts an Arduino into a high-performance low-cost motion controller. Motor control can now be achieved without expensive and failure-prone parallel communication systems.

Stage Control Hardware

Streamlined GUI System

Micro-CT scanners are composed of many interwoven subsystems. Our GUI combines x-ray monitoring, motion control, as well as image acquisition and processing into one streamlined program so you can retrieve scans with the click of a button.

Key Criteria

  1. System integration of computer, x-ray tube, detector, imaging software, and motion control system.
  2. Completed imaging chain including user interface (GUI) for tube control, motion control, and imaging reconstruction.
  3. Final imaging validation with spectral detector using a set of phantoms
